Youth Alpha

What we’ll talk about on Youth Alpha?

The course will be broken into 10 sessions, each running on a Sunday morning. There will be an additional introductory one, and about half way through there will be an away afternoon/evening.

Here’s what the course will cover?

Christianity: boring, untrue, irrelevant? (Introductory one)
Who is Jesus?
Why did Jesus die?
How can we have faith?
Why and how do I pray
Why and how should I read the Bible?
How does God guide us?
What about the Holy Spirit? How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit? How can I make the most of the rest of my life? (one-off afternoon/evening session (one Saturday in June)
How can I resist evil?
Why and how should I tell others?
Does God heal today?
What about the church?

Once we know numbers we will give everyone a detailed list of dates, with what topic we are covering and when.

Calling everyone aged 11 to 14

Explore the meaning of life

What’s this Youth Alpha thing all about?
Youth Alpha provides a safe environment to explore the Christian faith and discuss life’s biggest questions. Some of the questions we’ll explore are: Who is Jesus? How can I develop a relationship with God? Is there more to life than this? No question is too simple, too tough or too out there. Try us.

What will it be like?
Each Sunday, at 10.30am we will gather together in the Excel room (just off the main church) and have a late breakfast together. We’re planning croissants, pancakes, bacon batches, muffins and doughnuts…yum! Then we’ll watch a 20 minute Youth Alpha DVD. Afterwards, we’ll talk about the DVD and weekly topic (see back page for a list of the topics). We’ll also make time to do some activities – so the sessions should be interesting and fun! We aim to finish at the same time as the church service, so sometime between 11.30am and 12.00pm depending on the week.

Can I invite my friends?
YES! Your friends are very welcome! – even if they don’t attend Christ Church, or have never been to any church before.

Is there any homework?

Nope! We know you have more than enough school work to keep you busy. Youth Alpha is simply about exploring topics of faith together.

Who are the Youth Alpha leaders?
Paul Scragg, Julie McCann and Sarah Watson (also Arthur Woo on our away afternoon).

Did I hear there’s a Youth Alpha away afternoon?
We are planning to have an afternoon/evening where we will have a camp in the garden area behind the church, which will involve a camp fire, cooking sausages and toasting marshmallows. As well as having lots of fun, we’ll also be taking a look at the following topics: What about the Holy Spirit? How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit? How can I make the most of the rest of my life? We’ll give you more details nearer the time but we’re currently looking at holding it one Saturday in June from 4pm to 9pm.

I have more questions. Who do I contact?
You can speak to Arthur Woo, Paul Scragg, Julie McCann, Sarah Watson or Brian Jones. Or you can call the church office on 02476 502770.
